How to Write a Good News Article

News is the process of presenting current and interesting events, obtained from every moment and everywhere. This information is then conveyed to the public by the media. The most important factor in determining whether or not something is newsworthy is how significant it is to the people involved. The more significant the event is, the greater the impact it will have on the audience.

In order to write a good News article, you must have a lot of research skills. Often times, the information you gather will be used in the final draft of the article, so you must make sure it is accurate and complete.

Another key factor is how new the event or situation is. Even if it has been happening for a long time, it may still be newsworthy if there is a major change to the event or if it affects large numbers of people.

If a bug is killing crops, it is not newsworthy, but if an insect is threatening the food supply of many nations, then it is very newsworthy. Similarly, if a peasant farmer says that the Roman Catholic Church should ordain women priests, it is not newsworthy but if an archbishop states this view, it will be.

Most people believe that the job of journalism is to inform and educate their readers, listeners or viewers. Entertainment should come from other areas – music and drama on radio; cartoons and crossword puzzles in newspapers.
